About Us
Per 1 February 2011 this website has been exclusively licensed by Lavender & Sage Ltd to Judith Goodwin (Lavender & Sage Home Accessories).
Judith Goodwin:
Starting my own business has been a roller coaster of emotions, ranging from sadness at no longer working so closely with Mayke and Nikki who are both far more to me than just work colleagues, to excitement at the challenge I am facing.
Having worked with Mayke for 3.5 years it was a sad day when she told us that Lavender & Sage would cease trading as she wanted to follow other interests in her life. Unemployment seemed to be beckoning. I couldn't stop thinking what a shame it was to let such a well-loved name disappear. So with the support of family and dear friends, and after much discussion and chewing of fingernails, here I am.
Whilst working with Mayke she has shown me how important it is to put some of who you are into your work and to maintain a sense of honesty, fairness and most important of all a sense of humour. It is my intention to carry on building what Mayke has started so successfully. Lavender & Sage will still be the home of 'French inspired' furniture and accessories for your home. I am looking forward to sourcing new suppliers as well as continuing to stock the favourites that L&S have become known for. It is also my hope to open a retail shop in Sussex as soon as I am able to.
Mayke will still be in the background and will be on hand to answer any Interior Design queries you may have.
I live with my family, husband Mark, 15 year old daughter Megan, a very handsome 3-legged Golden Retriever named Angus, and 4 unruly chickens called Marigold, Clover, Buttercup and Lilly, in the beautiful Sussex countryside with the South Downs on my doorstep.
Mayke Hogestijn:
Before starting Lavender & Sage in 2006, for very many years I worked as a property restorer and interior designer, which more or less meant living on building sites. In fact, Lavender & Sage was started for Jessie, my liver-spotted dalmatian who was then 13 years old, so that our work place should be warm and dry and without steel toe cap boots to step on her pretty Princess's feet. I used the contacts I'd made during the three and a half years we'd lived in Provence and away we went. Lady Jessie was always firmly in control, you must understand. Even our courier used to say: 'In the end, everybody reports to Jessie'.
My beautiful darling Jessie passed away on 2nd February 2008, but her memory lives on in Jessie's Trust. Read all about Jessie's Trust and how it's helping to raise much-needed funds for animal charities.
After passing the 'Internet Sales' torch into Judi's very capable hands per 1 February 2011, I have returned to the remaining loves of my life: interior design and animals. If you have any design queries, please have a look at this page. As to animals: it is my deepest wish to open a Holistic Animal Centre here in Alfriston, East Sussex, to benefit all animals great and small, pet or wild. The foreseeable future will be dedicated to acquiring the required knowledge to this end. Watch this space!

IN MEMORIAM
Christer Klingwall
2 July 1954 – 20 April 2009
My husband and partner Christer passed away completely unexpectedly on 20 April 2009, after having been a cornerstone of my life for 26 years.
He was the financial brains behind Lavender & Sage, our own lovely Finance Director, and was a never-ending support to me. One of the million things that I will miss so painfully, is how proud he was of me, and of everything I did. And how he was always there to pick me up when I fell.
He was the dearest, sweetest, funniest, most intelligent, caring and wonderful man in the world, and he and Jessie were the loves of my life.

Ethical trading
You can buy from Lavender & Sage with a clear conscience.
As well as checking the credentials of all our suppliers, we aim to have minimum impact on the environment ourselves. Also, we would never never knowingly sell products that contain animal ingredients, or have been tested on animals.
As much as possible the packaging and stationery we use is recycled, biodegradable or recyclable, or any combination of these. We are always on the lookout to improve.
But: first and foremost the items we sell are of excellent quality and are meant to last.
